Can you line an existing pond that leaks?
Yes. The basin is drained and dried, the base regraded, and a new membrane installed over it — with a cushion geotextile between if the old surface is stony or the old liner is brittle. Thin degraded film is usually better removed than lined over.
What thickness for a fish pond?
0.75 to 1.0 mm smooth HDPE covers most aquaculture basins, or LLDPE where the shape has tight corners. Details matter more than gauge here — inlet protection, rounded corners and proper anchoring.
