Dubai generates a particular mix of lining work. On the industrial side it is bunds, wash-down pads and process containment in Jebel Ali, Dubai Industrial City, Al Quoz and the Technology Park areas. On the landscape side it is ornamental lakes, water features and irrigation storage for the districts and golf developments, most of which run on treated sewage effluent and therefore need proper storage upstream of the pumps.

Ground conditions split roughly along the same line. Inland sites are dune sand — easy to grade, kind to a membrane, but so permeable that an unlined basin holds nothing. Nearer the coast, sabkha and high groundwater change the problem: the concern becomes uplift beneath the liner when the basin is drawn down, which is a venting and ballasting question rather than a sheet-thickness question.
